33 Reading Series Showcases Poetry and Nonfiction MFA Candidates
Columbia College Chicago's Poetry and Nonfiction programs have united to create a collaborative reading series that will showcase the work of graduate students in both genres: The 33 Reading Series.
The inaugural event will take place Wednesday, March 16 in room 101 of 33 East Congress, and will feature Poetry students Holly Amos and Stephen Danos, and Nonfiction student Ryan Spooner.
Holly Amos is an Editorial Assistant for Court Green. She received her BFA in Creative Writing from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH, which is home to international figure skating sensation Scott Hamilton, as well as the National Tractor Pull Championship (“full pull” indeed!). Her work has appeared or is forthcoming from Bateau, Columbia Poetry Review, North American Review, and Phantom Limb.
Stephen Danos was born in Providence, RI, but grew up in Montclair, NJ and Glen Ellyn, IL. He received a BA in English from The University of Iowa. He currently is on the cusp of obtaining an MFA in Creative Writing - Poetry from Columbia College Chicago, where he received the Eileen Lannan Poetry Prize, a Follett Fellowship, and co-edits Columbia Poetry Review. His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Lo-Ball, Bateau, Juked, Phantom Limb, OVS Magazine, and LEVELER.

The event begins at 4 p.m., and is open to the public.

Tatiana M. Uhoch to Read in Good Evening Reading Series
MFA candidate Tatiana M. Uhoch will read alongside Abi Stokes and Brian Mornar as a part of the Good Evening Reading Series on Friday, March 11.
Abi Stokes is a senior studying poetry in Columbia's undergraduate Creative Writing program. Her work has appeared in Columbia Poetry Review and Eleven Eleven.
Brian Mornar is the author of Repatterning (2007, Punch Press) and Three American Letters (2010, Little Red Leaves). Mornar's work has been compared to Walter Benjamin's Arcades Project, and his methods to those of a hip-hop DJ. He is a Ph.D candidate in English/Poetics at SUNY Buffalo, and an instructor at Columbia College.
The event, which is BYOB, will be held at Mess Hall (6932 N. Glenwood Ave.) in Rogers Park. Festivities begin with an open mic at 7:00. Featured readings start at 7:45.
